I mesi dell'anno tratti dal più bel libro miniato del XV secolo, 'Les Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry'. The months of the year from Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry. This is probably the most important illuminated manuscript of the 15th century, "le roi des manuscrits enluminés" ("the king of illuminated manuscripts"). It is a very richly decorated Book of Hours containing over 200 folios, of which about half are full page illustrations.
It was painted sometime between 1412 and 1416 by the Limbourg brothers for their patron Jean, Duc de Berry . They left it unfinished at their (and the Duke's) death in 1416. Charles I, Duke I of Savoy commissioned Jean Colombe to finish the paintings between 1485-1489.
Music by Guillaume Dufay, 'Mass for St. Anthony of Padua'

  • This video is a delight ! I often look at the book, listening to a gregorian song, but that's the first time i can watch such a video !

  • @plonsdrums ... your comment is very important. It should become a long standing quotable quote. There is much to be learned from it. So timely for me right now too, thank you:)

  • it seems that quality doesn't attract quantity

  • A beautiful pairing of splendid images and some of Du Fay's most glorious music.

  • Bellissimo.
