Example:...... You don't let a little kid discover for him/herself that roads are dangerous and just let her run out there. You teach her what to think about the road and how to act around it. Of course, once she gets old enough to get about without holding your hand, you let go and in time it will be up to her how she acts around the road.

Every family on Earth teaches their kids principles & values/beliefs either directly or indirectly. It's not brainwashing, it's just raising kids.
The important part is that as they grow older you support their own reasoning and empower them to explore what they've been taught and decide for themselves what they want to follow/believe, and why.
That's why I'm a Christian, time and again in the Bible God invites us to 'come and reason things out' with Him - He wants us to use our Intellects!

@MissNickie84 this is not "spreading the message of love" this is not letting a little girl think for herself. this is telling a child what to think and do.
oh and
@peacemaker137 noone brainwashed me when I was younger to not believe in a god. i made that choice after learning about different religions in this world. You're "God' just gives you an excuse to blame all the bad things
that happen in this world on someone besides yourself.
