Quite a number of religions are practiced in China. Taoism is one of the major ones. In fact, it is native to China, where it has been around, first as a philosophy, then as a religion, for well over 2000 years. A key element in the Taoist belief system is the worship of mountains. So, not surprisingly, Taoist masters often spend long periods of their lives living on mountains, where they cultivate themselves with the aim of achieving immortality. China has more than a hundred mountains that are well-known for their associations with Taoism. The holiest is the Wudang Mountains in the northwestern part of Hubei Province.

  • One of The Taoist schools I follow mainly ,the Orthodox Unitary, says Taoism is actually five thousand years old.

  • @Gwynsek

Officially Taoism is about 2500 years old, but its origins can be traced back to older shamanistic traditions :)

  • @Gwynsek Yes they are right.. even before the book I ching that is the root and the bible beside Tao te ching is 4000 years old.. and it has its roots in the shamanism and other nature filosofies. so it can be true that it is 5000 yers old, some even say.. tao is older then the thing it self. // Shifu M.

  • @Gwynsek Where do You live and how old are you? Actully it is very cheap. you can live in wudang and also train Martial art if you want for about 2000 yen 1 week a good school with food and everything bed. or just some hotel, and the airplain maybe cost 4,500 yuen.. so its not so much. I Wish I could help you on some way / Shifu M.

  • @shiifu Oh I just think I will never be able to afford such an expensive trip (at least to my pockets, smile) but I´m so glad you´ve been there !!

  • @shiifu Thank you so much for confirming this !

  • @CControl I know, I had read this too,but ever since some modern archaelogical findings in Turkey have shown 12.000 year-old ruins of temples and findings like Krisha's Dwarka in India (or even that Mohenjo Daro seems to be actually hindu and there was never a supposed aryan invasion),I start to think these ancient eastern religions may have at least some credit in their own chronology.
