Border Collie Rescue offers long term care for some dogs that are difficult to re-home or need more constant care. Pan - a blind Border Collie is one of these.
Initially, she was found a permanent home but the couple split up. Not wishing her to have to risk such an occurrence again, it was decided that she should be permanently fostered and remain under our close supervision.
She was initially trained by Nicki Oliver and this training has been maintained by our foster carers, ensuring that she is very obedient.
A high degree of verbal control has enabled us to give her more freedom.
This video was shot in widescreen 16.9 format, which is why the perspective is odd!
The Border Collie is designed to be a sheepdog and was originally used for herding livestock in the English and Scottish Borders. Border Collie Rescue assesses all dogs coming into our care for herding ability and will rehome them as stockdogs if that is what they need to do but we also assess and rehome for scent discrimination skills to the Police, Prison Service and Excise to detect drugs, explosives and firearms -- to SARDA and other rescue organisations for mountain rescue and search and rescue work -- to help deaf, blind or otherwise disabled people as well as for working trials, flyball, agility, obedience and other interactive sporting disciplines and many of our dogs have qualified for Crufts in these disciplines. Those that show us they do not need or want to work are rehomed as PAT dogs, pets and companions.

disabledanimal has adoptions, help and the ability to list disabled animals - it's for those who have a soft spot in their hearts for these precious ones that are blind, deaf, paralyzed, etc. :)

I have an 11 year old dog blind from glaucoma. He's struggled to get to the point where he's comfortable walking up stairs and roaming our fenced in yard without wearing a leash. Seeing how well your baby has done with her condition is SO inspiring. Thank you for sharing this video. :)

Oh! Panda is such a lovely and graceful dog, she is a beautiful ambassador for so-called disabled dogs everywhere. And for adult dog adoption as well, what a fabulous companion!

Thank you bibliocephalus, we shall pass your kind words on to Pan.
She was visiting today - comes every week, but left too early to get your complimentary description.
Mind you - she has her bad side - not a complete angel.
She can rag a blanket to within an inch of its life when the mood takes her!

Fantastic! You make the world a better place.

Glad you liked the video. Every dog deserves a chance to live a full and rewarding life. We should all stop judging disability by the negative sapects and look at the positive side. Nature compensates and Pan can 'see' with her nose and ears (and an uncanny sixth sense) - she does not miss much!
