The idea of having the physical controller knobs over the lcd was nothing short of inspired genius.
I truly believe this is how things will be done.

Hey Paulo, the idea of putting knobs over an lcd screen is genius. You could create templates for most software synths, and even a tool for letting users creat their templates (even if they are only a static bitmap)
pierbover 11 months ago
@pierbover I already did that :-) But the software has an screen which allows you to make your OWN new template.

Very intresting! I have a question : how did you modify the GUI of the plugins so the software pots on the screen fit the hardware ones? I would be pleased if I could tweak the GUI of some VSTs in order to make them match with the arrangement of my control surface's pots...
Thanks

I do not modifiy the gui of the plugins :-) Not only it will be VERY dificult, if not impossible, if would lead to all kinds of legal issues. What I do is put a simple user BITMAP and let the user choose a transparent color. When you see the dials moving you are seeing the gui plugin behind my form. The program moves the gui windows to a position which can be altered by the user so the plugin gui keep itself under the form.

The program does the drawing of the pot POSITION - which is a simple yellow bar, all else is a user bitmap. I let the user create it so it will be easy to anyone to program more plugins - there's a configuration screen for plugins which is not shown at the video. There you can configure which plugin parameter is tied to which pot and or button - altough is difficult to see, there's 22 on/off buttons at the bottom of the device. People only sees the pots :-). Thanks for asking!

Man, the screen controller is great!
What about Pro Tools? Will the plugin controller work with it?
Retinal56 2 years ago
hmmm. probably yes, but with a lesser degree of integration, since pro tools is a closed system. They see controllers as competitors, since they also sell hardware...
