This is a quick video of dei Liberi's right-hand dagger strike as interpreted by the Ottawa Medieval Sword Guild. The strikes are made, first with the dagger pointed forward towards the target, and next with the dagger pointed away from the target, as illustrated in the manuscript. Based on our preliminary examination, this latter method seemed to deliver more power at a negligible increase in time. Following that is the first Remedy Master of dagger, blocking to the inside, followed by a disarm and hammer strike with the fist. Schollers: Mathieu Ravignat (black) and Chris Penney (Yellow).

  • bak in the day it was a lot cooler than it is know. at least ppl had skills and didn't rely on a gun. they actually had to run and it was more cool. imo. know everyone thinks their gangsters lol.

  • I would like to see the grab more at the wrist as in the treatise, but honestly when do things ever go exactly as they should? Goodkingnado- the dagger work is simply a part of a comprehensive system of martial arts. This will work just as well against an opponent armed with a folding knife, a short club or even bare-handed against a punch. Fiore's dagger plays are advanced 'wrestling' applicable to a variety of situations not merely medieval dagger fighting.

  • Not tryin to be a dick (or "troll"), but these guys are talking like they often get into dagger fights!(I know they might actually get into play dagger fights at their geek gatherings, but that's all choreographed!)

  • Nobody ever shows the counter to that counter...

  • nice! More videos plz

  • Good. Very good. Practice dagger at arms length about 90% of the time. That is where the dagger comes to play most often. But also practice at longer ranges as well. Very nice guys.

  • Hi Folks,

Nice to see the video and people trying out the Liberi stuff.

I refer you to the treatises, both show the first master block at arms length not bringing it in to the body as shown on this video. If the opponents attack is a feint I think you will have problems.

Great stuff - keep it up!

    Col
