Berklee Studio Recording Session. The making of a prog-metal masterpiece!

Over the last month and a half I've been playing/singing with some really amazing musicians here at Berklee on a project very much in the veins of progressive metal (Dream Theater, Symphony X). We finally had the chance to use the studios available here at school to record a song we've been working on for a while. Here is some of the footage of us doing what we do best in the studio!
If you want a better idea of what the song sounds like, go the the last 3 1/2 minutes of the video to hear a rough cut of the first half of the song as it is being recorded (Vocals and all!)

ah yes i spent hours in those studios all bright eyed, bushy tailed and full of ambition with hopes that my music would change the world (then the weight of the world and the realities of life in the industry turned me all jaded but we won't get into that)

hold onto it for as loooooooong as you can, boys...life in the 150 dorms will make for some great memories down the road

In my personal opinion it is nice to see a group of guys wanting to be successful like Dream Theater. Think about titles such as "Pull Me Under", "Surrounded", "The Killing Hand", "Scarred"...these are the kinds of songs that make a group famous. This almost sounds like Adam Lambert trying to sing Progressive Rock. Which in its own way is a compliment, but still this song isn't going to build a fan base, but don't give up just because you are still at your "Dream and Day" stage.

I guess even the idea of recording the making of your song came from that mike portnoy was doing the same :p

@athousandstrats actually music has been VERY good to me and I'm fortunate to have been able to get to the point where it's my sole source of income...what I was referring to was the fact that the longer you spend in the industry and the farther along you make it, the more you realize that the quality of your music is of very little importance to industry bigwigs...bottom line is absolutely paramount, unfortunately...

Man you guys are incredible. I can't fully put it into words! We are definately prog fans here - DT, Pagan's Mind, Circus Maximus..you name it. We write a mix variety of styles in prog metal context with clean vocals inspired from topics such as quantum mechanics, conspiracy theory, philosophy - Non cliche shit stuff however we have a terribly low budget and are in West Virginia where noone wants to hear prog! Wish we had a musical education to back it up like you all! myspace / Mortalwrath
