It seems that Diana often sounded distracted or apathetic when covering other Motown songs. The backgrounds sound way more interesting than her dispirited lead here. It's a shame they're not more audible.
This was and remains kick-ass good. While the HDH and "A Go Go" albums were both too top heavy with unneeded covers of labelmates hits, "Always" (and "This Old Heart of Mine") were distinct exceptions. As a b-side to "In And Out of Love" this was probably the stronger side.
The Supremes had some of the best B-sides you'll ever hear. If you recorded all of their B-sides onto CD(s), you'd have better material than a lot of artists' A-sides!
@christheone8773 Yes! (I had this on 45 on also on "the Supremes Sing Holland-Dozier-Holland".) The Supremes' version has 3 part harmony; the original Isley version doesn't.
@Ian16545 it would be a mix

I wonder what would happen if they mixed it with the original Isley Brothers song...?
