Thor is battling bone cancer. We found out about 7.5 weeks ago. He got his leg amputated less then 6 weeks ago. He had his first round of chemo yesterday. I wanted to make a video so people can understand what it is like if you are faced with this very tough decision. It was an easy decision for me, but I had no idea how hard the recovery was going to be.. Thor weighed 130lbs and has no tail, I think that had an effect on how well he did learning to walk on 3 legs

  • I just wanted to let everyone know that Thor is still happy running around on 3 legs. It has been two years and he is still fighting this cancer. He is not the typical case. We don't know why he has beaten the odds, but we're so happy he has. i don't know what we'd do without him. (we also added another rotten to the mix and we are very happy that all the dogs get along. we are in the process of moving, but i started working on another video, so hopefully I'll have it up soon).

  • He is beautiful, you look like you love your boy as much as we love our girl, as sad as it is it needed to be done, it's been 4 weeks since our Rottweiler had her leg amputated due to cancer and i am hoping it wont be too much longer for her happy cheerful self is back. May they live long happy lives.

  • @OurKeelaGirl Thank you. It took Thor a few weeks for him to act normal. Just give it time and she will come around. Good luck to you and your dog. You'll be surprised at how well they adapt.

  • My dog got his further leg amputated about 2 weeks ago. and hes doing great. we were unsure if he will walk right because one of his other legs isnt alright. but he is awesome. he looks kinda funny when he walks, like a little baby kanguroo. but hes doing SO well. dogs are amazing....

  • @TheBlueberryMate Dogs are amazing. You have to know when to fight for your dog, they'll keep fighting for you. Besides, dogs were born with 4 legs, but they really only need 3. I hope everything is still going well with your dog. Best of luck!

  • Hi, how old is Thor? we brought our Rottie her name is Tessa to the vet, he told us a pulled ligament. 1 week later she was still limping. We brougt her again to the vet and xrays were done, thsi vet said its bone cancer! I bawled! how can the other vet miss that! so I brought her to another vet, When she looked as the xrays she didnt even say bone cancer! her husband which is an ortho vet looked at them today, im just waiting for a call! im so confused. She is on pain meds now

  • @mslade25 Thor is four and a half. He was three and a half when he was diagnosed. I noticed Thor's leg because he was limping, when I looked at it, as you can see in the video, his ankle was larger on one leg. That is where the bone cancer was, it destroys bone and replaces it with new, very fragile, and weak bone.

  • thats sad :'(( Get well soon thor!!

  • Beautiful Rottweiler

  • thanks for your response. Cancer is so horrible and its horrible watching your pets in pain. I am still waiting to hear from the other vet. Tessa is 9 so if it is bone cancer we are wondering if she could handle such a major surgery. Im keeping my fingers crossed. Good Luck!
