Anybody notice that the second car doesn't look like an intercity passenger car, but more like a streetcar? Maybe that's why it bent so much, it wasn't designed to take those kinds of crashes, unlike the first car, which didn't buckle at all.

how? easy, because a train is not a car and not a truck, its mass is hundred times larger, and because of that the train has lots of kinetic energy which is used to bend itself
