  • This man sings with soul!

¡Braaaavooooooooooooooo!

  • @batmanmd1 I, too, was fortunate to have seen them both....deStefano as Calaf in Turndot and Bjoerling in Concert. At the time deStefano was definitely past his prime and IMO had no business attempting to sing such demanding roles in large Opera Houses. Bjoerling on the other hand could sing the Lyric roles, and yet the timbre of his voice was such that it could easily ride over the orchestra when necessary to penetrate the deepest recesses of any hall.

  • The very best tenors in the world have been performing this for 85 years. It's hard to imagine that any of them could have topped this though.

  • @batmanmd1 Wow! I can't comprehend HOW u can mention di Stefano in the same breath or sentence as Bjorling! In my opinion he had the ugliest Italian-style tenor voice of all time.

  • Bjorling was an enigma! The finest leggero tenor ever who could also effortlessly tackle the spinto roles as well, because of his impeccable technique. If it had not been for his untimely death at only 49 in September 1960, Bjorling had been scheduled to record a full production of Otello in 1961, which was unheard of for a light, lyric tenor. I believe it would have been an amazing performance if his duet from Otello with Merrill was anything to go by. What an amazingly beautiful voice. Bravo!

  • @alacamara6

You are absolutely correct. Bjorling was unmatched Nothing on any operatic stage or studio today

  • I also love Corelli. What makes a difference is the "timbre os the voice"

Bjorling was unique. Not other tenor since him has it.

  • And they said he did't sing with soul. Hah! One of the greatest.

  • @alacamara6 It was amazing but, I still prefer Corelli

  • @batmanmd1 And Corelli too.
