that is an interesting piece of music.
I wonder if this "canaries" is related to the french baroque dance pieces because of the namesake and similar rythms. speaking of french baroque, have you heard of the march for timpanis by Philidor ?

Thanks. Yes, that is where Carter got the name and yes, I'm familiar with the Philidor borthers' duet. It'd be nice to see a performance online. Have you played it?
