I got this pressure cooker at an estate sale 4 years ago, but never used it until this vid. We were a little worried it would blow a gasket.

  • That's normal and safe, but you have the stove turned up higher than it needs to be there. All that is required is that a little steam continuously escapes from the regulator (that thing in the middle of the lid). If steam is leaking out anywhere else you need to replace parts, or buy a new one

  • @offramp100 thanks. I've used it several times since this video and for like $5, this thing was a steal. I replaced the seal on it, other than that it works beautifully.

  • i bought one like this at a salvation army and with the first use i stood in another room untill i heard the jiggle top jiggling. These things are scary

  • yeah man steam burns suck! when something is that old, ya never know. I stood around a corner!

  • Obviously it's releasing steam. Hard to say if it's building up steam inside. To me the steam release looks quite excessive. I would buy a new one anyway, those old pots have less safety features.

  • since this vid I actually contacted presto, and it works really well. I would like a new one that I don't have to babysit though :P

  • this is the video i was looking for!!! So this is is enough "jiggling"?? Great! I'm not so paranoid anymore

  • Those things are dangerous. My Aunt Hortense would get drunk and dance to ska music while using it. One day she left it on too long and the cooker exploded. The lid shot through the ceiling and Black Beans were everywhere. Aunt Hortense was so mad that she just jumped on her bicycle and rode off into the moonlight with her bag of peanuts. That was the last time i ever saw Aunt Hortense...

Years later i found out she had died. I went to her funeral. We buried her with her favorite cooking spoon.

  • my mom used to have one of these

  • She's gonna blow! haha. I bought a big Presto from the 60's on e-bay. Bought a new gauge for it (old ones become discalibrated with time) and it works great. We've done a ton of canning in it!
