Masterful filmmaking. Most people think of John Cassavetes as an actor, but his real strength was as a director of other actors. He could mold, form and shape actors with incredible aplomb.
Everyone thought Peter Falk was just Columbo, but this role showed great deftness as an actor, and of course Gena Rowlands, superb.
