Promotional film for Westinghouse refrigerator line featuring a system of sticker-like decorations enabling purchasers to style their appliances as they choose. Vague hippie-type flower-power graphics; scenes of mod-dressed middle-class conventional people

"the twitchy woman first wallpapers her wall, then wallpapers the fridge! How's she going to find the fridge now that it blends in with the kitchen background?? About 3 people "partying" dancing around the fridge in a wierd ritualistic way...Ah, the 60's...refridgerators are for kicks, man!!"

"Not a microsecond addresses the function of a fridge: keeping food cold. Aside from the opening outdoor scene and a second or two of (presumably alcoholic) beverages, nothing cold appears. Yeah, it's all hot, baby! Like all modern advertising, it's not about what the product does, but how it makes you feel. And you should be feeling groovy!"

  • wow.. this is very convenient

  • Whoah like... far out trippy!

  • @cdeville And then throw in the music The Beatles, The Who, Hendrix, Italian jazz funk fusion, psychedelia etc It was an astonishing decade. In my opinion it was far better than today which just relies on computerised gadgets, reproduction styling & absolutely woeful music.

  • @cdeville You must be joking! It was the decade of iconic design & designers. Panton, Eames, Colombo, Saarinen etc. New materials became available & made the 60s the most progressive & exciting era on record. The ball chair, egg chair, Guzzini lamps, Ericofon one piece phones etc. It was space age design & far more progresssive than anything today. I admit, this video is a poor representation of the era but you really need to research the 60s before you call it ugly.

  • i think im going to put up some wallpaper.

  • This video makes me glad I didn't live through the 1960s... but am I weird for kind of liking Astro-Glo Bronze at 2:03? :)

  • Wow... what an ugly time period for design. The color, the texture, the awful basement darkness to everything.

Actually from 1960 through 1990 could really be considered a throw out period for design.

  • brilliant.

one question though. who wants their mood to be "Astro-Glo Bronze"?

wait, what's that you say? EVERYONE wants their mood to be Astro-Glo Bronze?

    i thought so. :)

  • Whenever I smell contact paper I'm transported back to the 60's.

  • I want a zebra fridge!!! This ad epitomizes the sixties-very cool find! And @VegeBrain, I agree-they probably came with windowpane.
