At the 2012 ALA Annual Conference, ALA Public and Cultural Programs Advisory Committee Chair Terrilyn Chun interviews Reed College Professor Kambiz GhaneaBassiri about the Bridging Cultures: Muslim Journeys bookshelf, how it can help to increase cultural awareness, and the need for discussion in libraries about religion and its role in public life. The Bookshelf, a collection of 15-20 books to help public audiences in the United States become more familiar with the people, places, history, faith, and cultures of Muslims around the world, will be awarded to 1,000 libraries across the U.S. in December 2012 for use in presenting public programs in 2013.
