Cooking Mud Crab

After visiting Sydney Fish Market we had to do something with the pray. Boil the water, put the salt and crab in it - simple as that!

Humane or not, putting a crab to "sleep" before boiling it will yield a greater meat as the crab doesn't "Tense" when its exposed to Boiling water. If you cant be bothered a knife up the bum does the trick as well, very quick.

Crabs/lobsters/shrimp/etc do not have brains. They aren't aware of anything, ever. They have an immensely simple nervous system, and are more akin to small biological robots than they are to thinking beings. It's no more cruel than having a salad.

Dude, Oblivion is a g8 game, but this is something that you can touch and taste! The place I come form - we don't have such creatures available.

And to all of you saying this is a live animal - I wasn't torturing it - it's just the way you prepare food. Cool - I could put it into freezer but do you really think it's more humane? "Put it to sleep" in -22C? In boiling water it dies instantly.

@dzogus Its all good man, i was just trying to prove a point. And if you want to try freezing, just look online, there are lots of ways to do it to make sure you get the best taste too. Have a good meal! haha, cheers to you too.

@Pibbmasta Sorry mate but I don't believe any crab would be dying for 10 minutes... unless the water is not boiling - I haven't seen the whole youtube you know ;) Anyway I'll freeze my second crab before boiling - will see if it tastes differently. Cheers

@dzogus Yes, as a matter of fact some recipies for crab say that it could take up to 10 minutes for a crab to be completely dead from boiling. There are several videos on youtube showing this. Yes cooling them is more humane, even Alton Brown on Good Eats says to do this if you want to use the "most" humane methods, and that the experts back this up. So its not just me saying this. I dont think youre a sadist, or that its wrong to kill, but if you have the option to be humane, why not?

3-5 minutes or seconds? Really - have you seen any crab struggling to get out from a pot for 3 minutes? Don't believe so. And as I wrote above - do you think that freezing it for 20 minutes is more humane? I'm not sadist but you need to kill to eat and I don't think I was cruel

@Mistraker and no, its not because i think what the person is doing is "mean", i love eating crab, its delicious, but they have been prepared in horrifying ways even when there is evidence showing that this IS inhumane. My thought is, if youre going to prepare something live, then at least give it the decency of as least of a painful death as possible. This isnt about opinions, its about truth. And its about time people realize that.

@Mistraker Do a search for "Queens University Belfast do crustaceans feel pain" in google and be amazed at the scientific research that has been done in just this category proving that they do in fact feel pain. I made sure to do so before i said anything so it wouldnt look like i was talking out my ass, ironically. This information is dated between 2007 to 2009 so, its relatively new, you might not have known this.

@Pibbmasta I have done the research. Arthropods have ganglia, not brains, and there is no scientific evidence that they feel pain. The evidence, in fact, suggests they are incapable of feeling pain, and do not even send nerve impulses associated with pain. You're the one who hasn't done any research. You're talking out of your ass because you think what this person is doing is "mean".
