the last woman feels guilty about her past. and she is Using the dogs to make up for her issues.she is a nice lady but not strong. she needs therapy for a long time before she gets a sweet (trustful) dog for the right reason-those dogs need a different owner. the guy was being very smart to walk away from the drama of her issues.she puts the dog first over him. the guy will have to live with dogs he doesn't trust and a neurotic girlfriend.

If you ever had a dog that was really well behaved, and was such a complicated mix of breeds: pitbulls are hard to breed, labs-have a lot of energy and they are really smart and if you don't give them enough cognitive load they use their smartness in a negative way.) than you should of known that you have to give them every atom of your attention to him, as you can see this woman doesn't have so much control of herself, so the dog feels it and just shows it out.
