Riverside, while it is true that the GOP once fought against the institution of slavery, the realignment of the parties over the last century has resulted in Democratic and Republican Parties that are no longer the same in terms of ideology.
If the Republican Party actually did promote policies of equality, and fought for the less fortunate, I would be the first in line to join them.
That is not the case anymore.

What happened to the Democratic party?
I am a Democratic but I can't bring myself to vote for them anymore? We was a party that stood for the working man. Good blue collar hard working Americans was our core voters now look at us. We have turned in to a party of socialist commies, gay rights activist, life long food stamp collectors
