TONY WILSON Baboushka A Russian Christmas tale

From the 2007 DVD "Christmas tales." From around the world there so many different stories involving children getting presents that I chose this one from Russia. I love the simplicity of the tale and the linking of all of the objects to the story of the Nativity, Over the years I have been asked to tell a series of Christmas stories to wide range of ages of children and adults. While I was working at the Laing Rrt Gallery in Newcastle and at the Stephenson Railway museum in North Shields I had access to some costumes and I made this collection available on DVD. To add atmosphere and underpin the whole of the project I used the fine harp playing of my good friend and one-time colleague Sean Barry.

btw 'baboushka' in russian means 'grandmother' (and the emphasis is on first 'a': bAboushka), i wonder how the word became so popular in english?
