Not a bad shot. A little quick running at the start and blonde near the end, but within spec - 1oz in 23s. I'd tried a few shots ground a notch finer in my Rocky, but the machine would bind up and eventually just channel the puck. This grind worked well with a slightly stronger tamp, though better beans would be the best solution. These are week or so old Lavazza Qualita Oro beans from Loblaws... not the best specimen!

Mouth feel was actually quite good. I didn't expect much from these beans considering their pedigree, but consistency had that perfect lightness, like whipped butter. Very smooth taste, no harshness, with some nice earthy tones and touches of muscavado. A few astringents on the nose, but nothing overwhelming. A good practice bean, if nothing else. I'd rather sink a few bags of this at $15 than $30 bags of Top Class or Super Crema!

Machine is a Silvia v2 with Auber PID. See my other video for detailed specs and settings.

Cheers!

  • Nice shot. Seemed more like an espresso shot, but it looked good. What temp are you pulling the shot on your PID? And what grinder do you use?
