I actually found a video capture program that doesn't suck! It's only for linux, though. On Ubunutu, open a terminal and type:
sudo apt-get install gtk-recordmydesktop
And it will install the program.

I'm using it to show off the graphical effects of the Compiz Fusion window manager.
Here are my settings:
Burn (burns up windows when they're closed)
Wobbly windows (windows jiggle when moved around)
Desktop cube (four desktops on sides of a cube)
Cube caps (different pictures on the top and bottom of the cube)
Magic lamp (weird distortion when windows minimize)
Transparent cube (semitransparent desktop cube when rotating)
Skydome (background when rotating cube)
Sidekick (spinning-newspaper looking thingy when windows open)

I've also got other effects (not shown here.) Will replace this with a more complete video later.

  • where can i find the minimize effect?

  • Just go to the animations plugin, and "minimize effect" is a tab. You can pick what animation to use for minimizing. I chose the "magic lamp" animation, that's what you see in the video.

  • How'd you get a 3d background behind the cube? I am very curious.

  • It's called a "skydome" and it's not 3d.

You will need a really big picture (bigger than your screen resolution.) Just Google "skydome pictures" or something like that.

Next, start up compizconfig settings manager, double-click on "desktop cube," and go to the "appearance" tab. Find the "skydome" pull-down menu, the rest is pretty self-explanatory.

  • were did u get that them with the fire?

  • It's in the CompizConfig settings manager. Go to "Animations," then pick which animations go to which events.

anyway very nice but i have 8.10 and it doesnt have the burn effect >:(

and how did u make the cube zoom go slower? ill probably find it but could u tell me?

  • ok thanks

  • You mean how do I click-and-drag the cube? By default you click an empty part of the desktop (not covered by a window) with the mouswheel and hold the mousewheel down.
