Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Spirit;

- Paul the Apostle

  • Other than the aforementioned, I fully agree with Dr. Cairns. The merit we have is Christ's alone. Even when we've done all that is commanded, we are but unprofitable servants. He has done all, and none other can merit anything, only believe on Him Who is righteousness.

  • I like how it opens with Luther's A mighty fortress is our God.

  • Grace, grace,God's grace! Grace that will pardon and cleanse within! Grace, grace God's grace! Grace that is greater than all our sin! =)

  • @stand4truth07 oh yahuah have mercy upon the men that seek to destroy your perfect law and twist the words of yahshua the saviour and paul , cause just like you stated the wolves have gone out ravaging the sheep teaching the gospel of lawlessness and twisting the minds of the unstable and uneducated your childeren are destroyed by lack of knowledge

  • Our salvation comes from God. His scarifice, his grace, his love. If it was anything we could have done ourselves, there would have been no need for Jesus's scarifice. On the other hand, that is not a license to continue in sin, it's actually a licensce to stop sinning. See before you accepted Jesus you were dead in your sins, and you were a slave to them, but through him, you have freedom from sin. The bondage of sin has been broken.

  • Paul was no Heretic If you have Faith in the Grace of God his laws will be written on your hearts. If you think there is any thing that you can do to get to heaven other than throwing yourself on Christ than you are saying his sacrifice was not enough. If you have Faith in Christ he will rework you and any works you may do will be him working through you to do those works. If you have works without Faith than your works are as filthy rags. Lest you think you've justified yourself.

  • Paul was a heretic. He twisted the scripture of Abraham's grace, just like the serpent twisted the word in the garden.

    If Abraham had not been obedient to God, would God have blessed him still?

    Grace continues as long as we are obedient to the Commandments. That's what it means to wear white robes. And if we sin we have a Lamb who shed his blood for us, and we have a High Priest to confess to. James said grace without works is dead. Our works are to keep the commandments, and help others

  • I recently learned of Dr. Alan Cairns, having found his sermons online, and have been very blessed by his preaching.

    Yes, "by Grace alone"...Amen :-)

    Thank you for providing this video.

    May God bless you and yours.

  • He is wrong. Bill Hybels and WC South Barrington rock for those who choose to show and learn how to be better followers and seekers. I will seek my entire life. It doesn't cost a thing and is free. Groovesvill.

  • o.k., and agreed.

  • I get fired up on the whole merit issue after reading Luther's amazingly straightforward exegesis of the Scripture & rebuttal of Erasmus: The Bondage of the Will.

    This ought to be required reading for every Christian!

  • And when I say, "Will you ___", I am referring to the imaginary or hypothetical holder of the position, not you.
