  • Bobby Rodriguez, founder and bandleader of La Compania, died March 13, 2003 from complications of stomach cancer. Rodriguez's band took New Orleans influences to New York for some heavy duty Salsa, incorporating flutes and brass into its sound.

In 1978, La Compania had a hit with their version of "Latin From Manhattan". Originally recorded by Al Jolson, the song was given a fresh face by Rodriguez and his clarinet.

  • I did;nt know these guys were dead.
