"Home-brew" Mini-Dipole antenna for 80 meter amateur band. Length 24 feet. Elements made from two twelve foot (telescoping) aluminum painters poles. Antenna is currently resonant (providing SWR less than 3:1, 50 ohm input impedance) on five ham bands 17/15/12/10/6 meters either vertical or horizontal polarization. Variable capacitor added to feed point, shown in video, allows tuning on four additional bands 80/40/30 and 20 meters. Video of on-the-air operation on 3.552 MHz. 80m operation required external ATU - antenna is still under development.

  • YES!! Added to my list of projects - thanks. Got trees - need slinky!

BTW, another great conductor for stringing over trees is that solid conductor 20 ga wire with HDPE/UV resistant green insulation sold in 500 foot spools (INNOTEK) for buried dog fences. It is very hard to see in the air, I use it for my 80m dipole suspended from three trees -center coax connection and end. Draped over the top of the tree canopies with adequate play gives long life and since insulated is unaffected by wx

  • I think I'd string some slinky's across some trees.
