I "brewed" another batch of EdWort's Apfelwein. It took about 10 minutes from start to finish after I had all the ingredients together.

  • Have you tried brewing with a different yeast? I just did a batch without montrachet, we'll see how that turns out. Also all of your apple juice had added vitamin c, I was worried the extra acid/preservatives would screw with the brew, did you notice anything? Also what was the ABV.

  • @amr294 I know all that. All Im saying is you can get just as much O2 by just stiring it vigerously. Broken glass and 5 gallons of sticky juice is do fun to clean up

  • @Adol666 Before yeast goes into its anerobic phase where it is consuming simple sugars and producing alcohol and co2, it first goes through its aerobic phase. This is where it multiplies like crazy in preparation for the job at hand, and it requires a decent amount od O2 to accomplish this. Homebrewers either inject O2 with a tank and airstone or do like I do and shake the holy crap out of it. Then you watch those yeast have sex. Think of it as some Barry White at the cellular level.

  • Use Alcotec 48 Turbo yeast... ca. 20% Alcohol... Thats a REAL Apfelwein xD

  • Instead of putting the stopper in it and shaking it up why not use a long handled brewers spoon(sanitized) and just stir it good? Alot safer id think. Other then that nice vid. I think making wine is maybe just about as fun as drinking it lol

  • @EdWort Now that's a good idea.

  • I use vodka in my airlocks in case you get "suckback" due to barometric changes from weather. I don't want sanitizer or old water getting sucked back into my fermenters, so I always use cheap vodka. I've done it for 22 years and while I am very careful with my sanitation, I have never had an infection.

  • like the original recipe says use vodka in the airlock so no bacteria and if you get any in the carboy boosts up the abv

  • This video is great to show people how to make this. It was very instructional and demonstrative. That being said I guess I am a brewing snob: The Funnel was a bit small; using celophane rather than an undrilled stopper; Not having sanitizer already in the 3 piece airlock etc... (enough of me being negative). I really liked the video and am making this exact recipe tonight. Cheers!

  • @mlyday68 The juice is pasteurized when its bottled, killing all living contaminates like fungal spores and bacteria. Now You Know.
