Jeremy Blanchard, a fourth-year Environmental Studies major at the University of Oregon, is one of the three core organizers who helped make PowerShift West happen. He found his way into the world of student activism less than a year ago, while recruiting students for the national Power Shift 09 conference in Washington DC. His involvement led him to run for the UO student senate, where he is currently one of twenty students who help determine the budgets for student groups and services.
He is passionate about organizing campuses and communities to find solutions to the climate crisis. In December, Jeremy will travel to Copenhagen with 13 other students from the Cascade Climate Network to help hold our negotiators accountable for the climate treaty that will be produced there.
Jeremy is also known around campus as the "free hugs guy" because he can often be seen on 13th Street with his free hugs sign on Friday afternoons
