Hate crime legislation only puts people in prison for longer, does not address systemic oppression, and does nothing to stop violence again trans people. We need to focus on changing our society so that violence doesn't happen in the first place.

  • I don't think I could love your mind more right now. These social issues are interconnected. "The prison system, it's the new plantation. That's what it is." you might be unemployed but you're an activist to me.

  • Thanks! I think more white transguys need to own their social privilege. The same goes for class privilege. When we separate different movements, groups get left behind. Trans-people have experienced this with lgb work. I can't be liberated at the expense of others.

  • wow. when i saw the title of this vid, i honestly scoffed. ten minutes later, after watching, i am now opposed to hate crime legislation. this is an enlightening point of view that i wish more LGBT people would take! thanks!

  • Hate crime= thought crime

3:15 more proof that we are living in a police state.

  • Hey Charles. I am on a collab channel, called MensRoomFTM where one of our video-topics were Hate Crime and Hate Crime Legislation.. I instantly remembered thi video, and how it inabled me to articulate my thoughts about this topic. I am referring to this video in my video.

So yes thank you for this, and heres for enjoying a wonderful spring weekend!

  • MrSyntha6 your a hater and a terrible person

  • priest just because someone says it's true doesn't make it true

  • i agree that our prison system is flawed. you're probably aware of the idea of the prison-industrial-complex... i've seen the same patterns in a psychiatric hospital... there is money to be made in these institutions, and any evolution of the process that effects those profits is stifled at least. and ive seen transphobic violence and discrimination there too, in a mental health center of all places.

  • only a good white is a white gay!!

  • Thank you for your well developed argument against hate crime legislation.

Although I was previously uneasy with hate crime classification, (how is one act of violence worse than another act of violence?), I had not put all of the many different pieces together.

You have changed my mind about this topic.
