Chang, Shu-Chi (1900-1957) was my teacher Zhang, Zhengyin's teacher, and that is why I call him my "grand teacher". They belong to the Shanghai school of Chinese painting emphasizing on elegant colors and the usage of Chinese white in flower and bird paintings. I did this painting of "Grape Vine with a Yellow Grosbeak in response to Linda Grace's, a Youtube viewer in New Mexico, request. Yellow Grosbeak: Large finch, yellow overall with black streaks on back. Bill is large and triangular with black upper mandible and gray lower mandible.

Thank you all for watching!

  • Hello, im an avid birdwatcher, you did a great job creating a yellow grosbeak, the beak was a tiny bit small, but I'm just very picky:)

  • @GlenHelenGHOfeeder I realized that the lower mandible maybe should be a lillte thicker. Thank you for pointing that out.

  • @FantasticArts85 Yes, it is a very nice book. You may find it in used bookstores on line. Linda just bought one for a very reasonable price. The one I got was under 30USD. Good luck!

BTW, the original teaching samples are now for sale at the BlueHeronArts website under the Flower and Birds section. Thank you!
