Neighborhood Board Commission Hearing - January 6, 2010

At 7 P.M. the Commissioners overseeing the Oahu Neighborhood Board System convened a meeting during which sanctions proceedings against the Ewa Board were considered. A case was presented by the liaison and soon to be acting Secretary of the Neighborhood Commission Office. The NCO provides administrative support and, ironically, legal interpretation of how the Board Chair can conduct meetings. This includes limiting your right to attend public meetings with me via video. It is possible that all future recordings of these public meetings will be restricted. The NCO positions are appointed by the Mayor's administration and may not be EEOC compliant.

Since 2006, when serving as Office Manager for our elected State Senator from Ewa, I have been recording public events that I attend with the idea that since you cannot join me in person at these meetings, at least you can be with me via video. This accessibility for the disabled and disenfranchised supersedes the personal needs of any attendee or elected official to demand privacy. The KEY to restoring faith and participation in Democracy is through what I have been doing for you for years - recording public events, encoding them in a free software wrapper, when possible, and making them available on the Internet for you. The fact that I am having to fight for my rights as a citizen journalist, with no support from 'mainstream' media, is a compelling case for why traditional journalism is giving way to citizen journalism. One must ask what motivates one to cover their face in public, or to squash the free press.
