PLEASE READ:
Translation of "BARKA!PANGEA!"- barka is a blessing that means 'thank you, please', and BARKA is the name of the nonprofit foundation that created this film. Pangea day is the event this film was created for, a global film festival about creating world peace by showcasing films that see through the eyes of the Other.

In "BARKA!PANGEA!" we don't actually get to see through the eyes of the Other. The camera is clearly in the hands of the westerner. However, the opportunity for westerners to see a unique view of Africa, one that shines out with a positive vibration in the face of poverty, has a similar effect on the consciousness of the viewer. In seeing how the beautiful Gour'mache people of Burkina Faso are living, the world's grief, sadness, pain, and imbalances become evident.

We hope there are lots of children who watch Pangea Day, including indigenous children who might get the chance to see themselves represented in the day's films. We think that's a powerful idea, and the kind of reciprocity that will help create world peace.

In the final 30 seconds of this 5-minute film, the sand in our hourglass is running out. 'Now is the time' for all of us to rise to the challenges posed by our global crises and do what we can to aid the situation. For The BARKA Foundation, that means humanitarian work in Burkina Faso in the areas of clean water, food, education, women's empowerment, micro-finance, and wisdomkeeping.

  • The BARKA Foundation understands Pangea Day wants to hear from you!

Let them know what you think.

Would this be a good film for the world to see?

For kids in Africa to see?

For the people controlling the media to see?

    Please leave us your comments.

    We request only your kindness.

  • Great.

  • What a beautiful reminder of what it feels like to return to our first home for a long-needed visit! We are blessed to live in this time when we have such beautiful teachers to remind us of community, joy, peace on earth, peace in the heart, the beauty of simplicity, the richness of nature...barka, barka, barka...

  • This film is spectacular. I hope that it gets shown to as many people possible. It is truly inspiring.

  • Wow, what a great way to share the faces and personalities of children and adults in Africa. Their need is clear and extremely touching. Thanks for creating this powerful message for the world

  • Thank you for the inspiration. I just watched it with my daughter and she asked, "Mommy, why do the kids in Africa need our help." I started to cry and it led to a discussion of humanity and values. Thank you. Please give specific actions that a family can do to help.

  • Beautiful!

  • What a blessing to be introduced to these people through your film. From the young ones to the elders, we get a feeling of their daily experience. We need more of this in the world to help promote understanding and peace. And we need to learn the dances! Thank you for this lovely piece.

  • The message to me of this video is that these children could easily be the children in my neighborhood, attending our local public school; smiling and dancing and clowning for the camera. That the people dancing could easily be my friends dancing. That the concept of our being all part of a large, world-wide family is everso easy to imagine. Indeed, we are all children, parents, students and dancers, separated solely by a car or train or plane ride. Understanding that leads to true sharing.
