That open reminds me of the 1983 open with Pittsburgh's skyline and zooming out into the "4" logo.

TAE was struggling in the early 90s--thanks to WPXI's surgence in the news game. WTAE briefly branded their news as 'family friendly' before reverting back to 'Action News' around the time that KDKA started to take a serious hit in the ratings for the first time ever in the mid-90s. The last several years it's been pretty close between all three--although I think WTAE is probably in the worst shape.
