In 2009 myself and 3 others embarked on a huge engineering challenge, to be precise the greenpower challenge. We are all students, studying A-Level engineering at the LTA and for this course we are to Design, Manufacture, Test and Race an electric race car, to top this off we also have to raise all the sponsorship as a team.
2009 was a troublesome year, we had problems getting started and at the races. But we battled through when the worst had happened for example Being run of the track at Dunsfold by a bunch of girls racing a roof box (not one of our best moments) to top of the car suffered damage. Once this was repaired we were ready to race in the final , only because we were awarded a wild card place (Which we are thankful for) This gave us a final chance to prove we had what it takes.
We had a huge learning curve which can clearly be seen throughout the video, and through all this effort we were rewarded with starting 74th (last) on the grid and ending in 24th a colossus 50 cars were passed throughout the race, and the icing on the cake is that we covered 91.2 miles gaining a silver award and setting a new school record. And Finally we were also awarded the iMeche Presidents Award for an Outstanding Achievement in Engineering Which we are hugely proud of!!!
We would like to thank Greenpower and all our sponsors that were involved last year. And we will be back this year so watch out!!
