Nissan has unveiled a bold new vision for the future of the London 'black cab' and its 300,000 daily users - the Nissan NV200 London Taxi.

The NV200 London Taxi will offer significantly reduced CO2 outputs compared to current taxi models -- a focus in line with the Mayor Boris Johnson's Air Quality strategy for London.

An all-electric e-NV200 concept is also set to undergo trials in the Capital.

Taxi versions of the NV200 have already been unveiled in Tokyo and it has also been chosen as the exclusive New York City 'Taxi of tomorrow'. The NV200 London Taxi joins an exciting global Nissan vision for the private hire industry.

Hopefully, this will signal the death knell for the crap L.T.I. have been forcing on us for so long.

For 60 years they have been building taxis and they still haven't got it right. The TX4 is uncomfortable, old fashioned, uneconomical, over priced with a very poor build quality. It is now Chinese built with an Italian engine.

    Bring on the Nissan!

The TX4 is too heavy (2 tonnes) and only does 24mpg in town.

Also it's CO2 is one of the highest, if not THE highest.

This Nissan, even in auto form should get 40mpg and £120 pa RFL.

LTC cannot match these figures unless they introduce a totally new vehicle, which I dont think they will as they have let the Vito take a 25% share.

This is the future. LTC/LTI are doomed.

    Part 3 from below

An opening for payment in a position that doesn't mean your neck or shoulder is usually giving you jip. Cheap to buy, cheap to run, long warranty, short time off the road, parts in stock etc.

If you keep selling it to passengers how many of THEM do you think will buy it? I hope Nissan get it right, but it's not looking good so far.

Everything below 18" that WILL be kicked made of inch thick titanium. In fact it would be better if it was made of something even stronger. Maybe that stuff they make fat women's stilleto heels from. Seats that don't rip when passengers sit on them while wearing a rucksack. Nissan gear driven cam engines. (You forgot to mention its a Renault engine in the video.) Leg room. Belly room. Interior door handles (including the linkages) that could be used in a trebuchet. An opening for payment in a p

Look at the little 8 stone lady opening the sliding door all by herself. Where is the video of the 20 stone drunk guy opening it as hard as possible? Will it still close after getting that ten times a shift seven days a week?

Charging points, great for storing old chewing gum and snapping children's fingers.

Taxi drivers are the people who are going to part with cash to buy a taxi, not the passengers. Taxi drivers want no small gaps for vomit to go into. Everything below 18" that WILL be ki

Well they may have been crap, but these certainly aren't iconic like the London cabs are. There could have been a better replacement than a Nissan van with windows, that's all I'm saying.

It's for the 25ft turning circle demonstrated in the video, that London cabs need to be able to do.

It's a RENAULT engine. Why not a Nissan engine? Are Nissan trying to destroy their reputation for reliability.

I'm loving the inside, but outside it lacks the cool London Taxi image. Basically, it looks a bit French and poncy compared to the chubby cheeky London taxi we all know and love! (Cyclists not included)
