Now I have two pickups in my acoustic guitar, one piezo and one magnetic, and I wanted to demonstrate the tonal qualities of all of them

  • would it be possible to put this into the preamp system in the guitar via a switch?

  • @lullabiesgoparalyzed possibly, but I don't know how

  • Dude - really well done - thanks for this. I like how you thought it out and explained the steps. A thought for you - you are combining the signals at the guitar, but consider a small mixer and running both into it, and even both into your recording rig. Then you can manipulate each independently and really tweak the recorded sound, even in stereo. You got me thinking ... I might have to get the Fishman or something like it and get experimenting! Thanks again.

  • @ANuisanceRockBand Thanks! A mixer is actually a good idea, but I tend to just use the Fishman these days, it has a really warm sound that I like(probably because it is humbucking). I learned that the name of the game for playing live is "keep it simple", the more things going on, the more potential you have for things to go wrong. However if you end up trying that out, feel free to post a video, I'd be really interested to see it. -Grant

  • Thanks for sharing the info with everyone. I've been experimenting with overdriven acoustics lately, and reached the conclusion that I need to install a humbucker. I'd like to know how well does that pickup work with a overdrive/ distortion pedal. Thanks in advance for the answer.

  • @notequinoxe Hey, thanks for the appreciation : ) I just did a test with my acoustic and a cool cat drive/mxr distortion+ The pickup sounds good with overdrive/distortion, there are no adverse effects when you throw some gain on it. The only thing is, make sure you are using a tube amp when distorting your amp. I also have a Acoustic AG30, which is only meant for clean acoustic guitar playing, and that amp sounds awful when you put gain in front of it because it isn't meant to handle it.
