I originally had created this as a Powerpoint show for my family's Relay for Life back in 2006. Problem was, it was a royal pain in the butt to make the Powerpoint work right every time it was transferred to a different computer. So...I recreated it as a video (it's basically the same as the Powerpoint...with some minor changes).

My mom, Sheri Blackshire, lost her battle against cancer on April 20th, 2003. This is being uploaded to help spread the word about cancer and to help spread hope to those battling it.

It also has a special meaning to me due to recent problems with the organization of our family's last Relay for Life. Our team placed 2nd in 2007, but due to some issues that shafted us out of a lot of money, our team would have placed 1st. My family was really bummed out about this and have been discussing not even bothering to raise money at this year's event (but instead, just doing it in memory of my mom and other family members who lost the battle against cancer). This video is to remind them that without the money we raise every year, more people are going to go through what my mom did and it's up to us to find a cure. While recognition is wonderful, it should not be our number one priority...finding a cure for cancer should.

When my mom was battling cancer, she kept a website up-to-date about what all she went through (with lots of pictures too). If any of you are currently battling cancer and looking for a glimmer of hope or are just curious to read her story, check it out:

  • Nice video josh....You don't know me but I have a video I just took, that your moms mom and dad, as well as your uncle john and aunt donna, might like to see....Your mother would have surely got a kick out of it too...Its called previous owners...Click my name...Tell me what everyone thinks, if you would....I actually found your family through the net and the first thing it popped up was the Herald & Review article about the relay for life, and I dug from there...Sorry about your mom also....

  • @Damen7 Wow! That is awesome! Is this from the house on Bowshier Lane? I saved the video...will pass it on to the family. I have so many memories from that house as well as a few here and there from living in the house next door. By the way, I noticed WMG already muted your music for "copyright violations"...search for videos on how to get your music unblocked on here. It's a very simple process...if you need help, shoot me a message and I'll link you to one of them. Thanks a lot for sharing!

  • What a phenomenal tribute & loving thing to do... You did a beautiful job and I am glad to have been able to see it.. (sooo I'm a couple years late getting to the link)

  • Very nice

  • Josh-I'm so proud of you for creating this. It's as beautiful today as when I first saw and listened to it. A beautiful memorial to a great mom & daughter. Love Paco

  • Josh, this is so beautiful.

Your mother was such a special woman. When she was sick, she was still a mom and she understood like only a mother can, the agony I felt that my daughter was as sick as she was. Your mom left this earth 6 short days before my Leora did, and I just knew she was waiting for her there...

Bless you and your wonderful family.

    Love, Jeri

    Your moms dutch friend,

  • The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

    Deuteronomy 31:8

  • Josh: This is so beautiful. I am so proud of you.
