According to Guinness World Records some french dude achieved the highest air on a skateboard off a halfpipe in 2005 with an unbelievable 7 ft 8 in. Guess the folks at Guinness have never seen this video
Actually that half pipe is more like 11 foot. It had what was a trend back in those days for a while, what we call "eliptical transitions" where the transition started out normally and gradually got tighter and tighter. It was a awful design, it would pitch you to the bottom. Todays vert ramps are a vast improvement. My backyard ramp that was ridden up until '95 was 12' tall with a foot and half vert, that was as big as they get back then. Todays vert ramps are 13 to 15 foot tall...massive.
I remember attending that competition! It was Holiday Havoc, I still have the gray T-shirt shown at 1:06 sec. I had it signed by Tony Hawk, Lance Mountain, Steve Caballero and some other pros. Been looking around for this footage for a very long time... Thanks for posting man!
Check out the 9 foot backside judo at 0:19 sec. And also at 2:01 over a 10 foot backside method air by Christian Hosoi. That pipe is about 8 to 10 feet or so, so he's airing about 20 feet or more off the ground total.
@candyandbrian Homes busted 10' airs regularly, and that's probably not even his highest in this vid
