Test of the maneuvering characteristics of a 16 foot (1/25th scale) self propelled FFG 7 class frigate. The planer motion machine moves the model in a sign wave curve as the model moves down the tank at a scaled 15 knots. The propeller motor is set for rotations to match the ships EHP.

  • the FFG does not have a bulbus bow for bow wave cancellation, the divergent wave were probably trailing a little aft, that was the roller you are talking about. After the test we put the model away for the year and break it out for the next class of 3 year naval architecture students

  • what do you do with the model after a test?

hey make the whole ship model and give it to your brothers and sisters..

  • @nevsky1961 it probably cancelled its wake..

  • I had the pleasure of chasing an FFG while it was transitting Lake St Clair in the late eighties. No bow wake whatsoever, and hardly any chop coming off the stern. The crazy thing was a LARGE roller(15ft) coming astern of the ship, which I got to ride with my Montauk. My speedo indicated the frigate was traveling 30mph.
