It is used to strike a student’s back when they have lost focus. These strikes are generally not violent and will often relieve muscle cramps for the individual being struck.

reminds me of when i was a kid and my grandparents used to take me to their mountaintop temple. so refreshing and relaxing.

hey benn2009, i just strolled onto this video, im going to watch them all. my fianc'e is south korean and she comes from a buddist family, so ive asked her to take me to a temple when i visit korea. how did you find the experience? what where the people like there?

It's a form of buddhist meditation, when your concentration wavers, they hit you on your shoulders.
