The Unravelling is an eclectic progressive rock/metal duo from Calgary, Canada. Inspired by diverse artists such as Dead Can Dance, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Arcana and Dillinger Escape Plan, the Unravelling's music ranges from the engaging and inviting to the aggressive and controversial(Their Tibetan protest video for "Fire Breather" went viral on Youtube with well over 30,000 views). The music is intended to be both cathartic and inspiring. A confidante of the band remarked that "The Unravelling sounds like the illegitimate love child of Lisa Gerrard And Zack de la Rocha". Pure Grain Audio describes their sound as "tactfully diverse music thats overflowing with a bloodthirsty passion." Music Connection Magazine named them in their top 25 new music picks of 2009.

Genres: Progressive rock, metal, gothic, industrial, dark, ethereal, experimental

"The Unravelling has created a cult-like following."
- SMN News

"8.2 out of 10 - Canadian duo create a gothy, subterranean world, deftly alternating ghostly, ominous passages with high pressure guitar and drum squall. The weapons-grade riffage and wailing vocals make a serious impact. Fans of NIN, Skinny Puppy and God Lives Underwater will revel in these songs of both alienation and guarded optimism."
- Music Connection Magazine

"A 13-track emotional and industrial-infused metal masterpiece"
- Pamela Porosky, Pitch Black Magazine

"The Unravelling are like a breath of fresh, haunting, brutal, skilfully written air. With tactfully diverse music thats overflowing with a bloodthirsty passion, its going to be an album, as well as a career, thatll please and keep listeners interested all the way through."
- Amanda Cuda, Pure Grain Audio

"Shocking lyrics backed up by haunting vocals and intense music"
- Daniel Berdak, Danger & Dissonance Radio on WMUC

"De Beauville and Moore can write anything they want to. They have chosen, though, not to give you a listening experience of safe, cliché, radio friendly music, but rather have chosen a specific direction in their song writing, because they have something to bring to the table that is different and distinct."
- Slowdive Music

"Inspired by melancholic feelings of pain, anguish, the occult, the mysterious, the political world, and the boundaries of the soul imprisoned in the human body, The Unravelling's music is an honest portrayal of the human condition that we all experience. I can sum up The Unravelling in one phrase. Move forward until you are dead."
- Evolution Rock Metal Radio/Podcast

"In 13 Arcane Hymns, Calgary's The Unravelling have created an awesome album which charts the full range of the harder side of music. You will remember this album for a long time to come. Simply excellent."
- Digital Gig Magazine

"13 Arcane Hymns, the debut album from Calgary based metal band The Unravelling meets with such power and unsettling intensity that it will send shivers down your spine and back into the deepest and darkest recesses of the mind and have you crawling back for more. Vocalist Steve Moore and instrumentalist Gustavo De Beauville have put their blood, sweat, and very souls into 13 Arcane Hymns and the effort really shows. All their work towards this debut album has culminated into something far more than probably anybody could have ever expected. Its raw, disturbing, unsettling, loud, and gruesome, everything that an amazing metal album should be. This has to be one of the most diverse metal albums that I have listened to in a longtime."
- AW Music

"For a duo they make an unholy noise with all the aggression of a feral pit bull on steroids. With it's recurring theme of being presumed dead and buried alive '13 Arcane Hymns' should come with a warning to agoraphobics."
- The Devil Has The Best Tuna
