Close flyby of asteroid 2002NY 40. The flyby was just outside the orbital path of the Moon. 800m in diameter, this one is large. One day, it will pose a problem but not for a very long time. It's rare that a flyby allows for a eyepiece observation let alone the special treat of seeing motion against the starry background. Observation date Aug 16, 2002 at 07:21:59 UTC. What a treat!   • We just don't live in an age where survey the whole sky at all times let alone have the ability to serve it to the world over the internet. But within our lifetimes, this might come to pass. If course, you can just go outside with a lawn chair and enjoy the night sky. :)
