Sutton banned indefinitely, faces Saturday hearing
Edmonton defenseman Andy Sutton has a phone hearing with the Department of Player Safety on Saturday afternoon to discuss a hit delivered to Carolina's Alexei Ponikarovsky in the third period of Wednesday's game at Rexall Place.

On Thursday afternoon, Sutton was suspended indefinitely, pending a hearing. Sutton was offered the option of an in-person hearing.

The NHL suspended Sutton for five games earlier this season for a hit to the head of Colorado's Gabriel Landeskog during an Oct. 28 game in Denver.

  • 8 games? 200K + in fines? For this? Fuck this version of the NHL. Every year it gets worse and worse. Soon we won't even be allowed to hit one another on the ice and be reduced to playing basketball on skates. Fuck this bullshit, Gordie Howe, Bobby Orr, Phil Espisito, Guy Lafleur.....These guys played when hockey was BRUTAL by today's standards, and they were magnificent. I'm disgusted by what has become of hockey.

  • Sutton never learns. This guy has horseshit for a brain, in my opinion.

  • @Kurzgan You sir, are a fucking moron.

  • @Kurzgan you dont know what youre talking about.. at all.

  • @Kurzgan what's even more disgusting is what happens to players when they're hit in the head like this 5, 10, 15, 20 years from now. Their brain content will literally be turning to mush. The game has changed, equipment, speed, size has changed, and the enforcement of the rules should too, just like anything else. Educate yourself before you make illogical comparisons to a game played in a time period that is not relevant anymore.

  • @PenguinsHockey247 lolololol you started watching hockey five years ago, go away.

  • @Kurzgan Give me a break. Those guys all played in an era when nobody knew what the hell a concussion was.

The worst part of the NHL today is the reffing, specifically hooking/holding and the lack of diving calls. Huge hits are still perfectly acceptable, and in fact encouraged. What isn't encouraged however are blatant headshots.

You'd have to be retarded to think that's a clean hit. It was forearm to face the whole way.

  • so...do you all prefer an NHL with elbows to the head, hits from the back and all that stuff? i am a hockey player, and i LOVE hits, but when you get knocked out by an elbow on your head or you get targeted being out of a play... or somebody hits you just to hurt you, you know that you're not playing hockey.

shanahan is doing great, maybe a little strict, but just only to concienciate players, and i believe hockey will be better and cleaner in a few years but still as hard as always.

  • @Kurzgan i totally agree with you. Hockey is getting ruined by all the new rules being implemented. I can only imagine what retired players such as Scott Stevens, who played the real rough sport of hockey, think about people like Shanaban trying to make the sport into some weak ass non contact sport.

  • You're an expert?

  • Sutton is dirty player so Shanny made right decision
