A reception was held in Ole Jim to honor Susan Elliott on March 11, 2009. Ms. Elliott is one of four finalists for the National Teacher of the Year award. She is also the 2009 Colorado Teacher of the Year, a member of Gallaudet's Class of 1977 with an M.A. in education, a former member of the Gallaudet University Board of Trustees (1994-2007), and an English and social studies teacher in Colorado's Douglas County School District.
I hate her so much. I'm so glad I got rid of my IEP and got her OFF my back and was able to prove her wrong. She told me never to take French. I ended up skipping French 2 because my skills were so good and I went on to AP - she had nothing to say about that. When I went to AP art, she said I'd never meet my teacher's expectations. I passed them. She said I'd never get past community college. I took college classes during high school.

Colorado's standards really went downhill when they chose her...she's a manipulator and she tries to act like all deaf students are exactly like her so we have to learn the way she did. She forces 3rd grade reading material on high school students with IQ's beyond belief and can very easily read a high school level book and understand it

She is the world's most horrible teacher. She didn't support me, always told me I could never succeed in taking French or AP art, which I got straight A's in, and she told me repeatedly that I'd never get into my college of choice, one of the top fashion schools in the country but I did. When I was in her class, I learned NOTHING and she kept putting me down. She held back a lot of deaf students and a few have switched schools to get away from her.
