Breath (Cloud/Riku) FTP Contest Entry

Well, this didn't win anything in FTP's contest, but oh well. I did the best I could. Better luck next time, I guess.

Story: When Sora next arrived on Hollow Bastion, he introduced Cloud to Riku. The instant Cloud laid eyes on Riku, he was overcome by an almost insane hatred of him, for everything about Riku reminded him of Sephiroth. Riku sees Cloud's death glare, and looks down, even though he doesn't know the reason for Cloud's sudden hatred of him. However, even weeks after Riku leaves, Cloud finds Riku haunting his thoughts, tormenting him with his insatiable hate. But they say there's a fine line between love and hate, as both required vehement passion. Cloud's utter loathing of Riku starts to struggle with a growing affection for the silver-haired teen.

The confliction of two powerful opposite emotions pulling on either side of his mind is driving Cloud absolutely crazy, and he realizes that he won't get relief until he does one of two things, each as terrible as the other. One: he could find some way to kill Riku and make it look like an accident, or Two: He could take the young man for himself, even against his will. Wanting to avoid either of these two options, Cloud tries to push Riku away, but the boy just won't stop coming back to haunt him. So, one of the next times Riku visits, Cloud acts upon the urges in his mind and body, and steals a kiss from Riku's lips.

The two fall deeply, madly in love with each other after that. However, despite the calm appearance Cloud has, passionate love and insane hatred for Riku still pull and tug in his mind. This causes the relationship to become abusive for both parties involved, and Riku realizes that this partnership cannot stand for much longer. Cloud has hurt him far too much, so he pulls out, and runs toward the Dark Depths on Hollow Bastion to think for a while. At this time, Sephiroth appears before Riku, and reveals himself to be Riku's father. He offers Riku a chance to gain power to destroy his abuser, and Riku takes it.

When Cloud and Riku next meet, their former love has soured into a bitter mutual hatred, and a terrible fight breaks out between them. Cloud strikes Riku down, but then realizes that it was truly love, not hate, that he felt for Riku all along. He takes Riku's Keyblade, and stabs himself in the heart, falling down dead beside his love
