God is sovereign over all things concerning the church and His people. It is God who adds to the church daily. Men have no power to change hearts and quicken the spirits of men, that is the work of God by the effectual working of the Holy Spirit. Gods calling is exclusive to those whom He has chosen. Those whom He has chosen will hear the gospel and believe as God opens their ears to hear and eyes to see and gives them repentance and faith to walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh

if you have a non-believing parent who might die... you're just supposed to be happy because it's all God's will? A bit like Buddhism ; avoid pain via detachment
