Ancient Future opened their 30th anniversary concert at the Freight and Salvage on July 26, 2009, with this duet version of "Moonbath." This song was chosen because it was the first song recorded when Ancient Future went into Tres Virgos Studio in Mill Valley in 1978 to begin work on their first record, 'Visions of a Peaceful Planet.' This live version revisits the piece in a delicate duet featuring Matthew Montfort on scalloped fretboard guitar and Mariah Parker on santur (hammered dulcimer). This version is available in high resolution audio to subscribers to the Archive of Future Ancient Recordings: http://www.ancient-future.com/afar.html

  • Very pretty piece, Matthew. Don't know how you went from CJHS Jazz Band (and Stiffwater) to that. Quite a leap!

  • @MST2k Well, I had already decided at age 13 after studying Hendrix for a year to study jazz and classical music with the idea of fusing them with rock. After Creighton Junior High when I moved back to Boulder for high school, I got into jazz on the ECM label, and from there decided to add world music to my studies. Moonbath was one of my first attempts to fuse rock, classical, jazz, and Indian music. Were you in CJHS Jazz Band? I couldn't find much info on you in your youtube profile.

  • Oops . . sorry Matt. It's Kevin (from Stiffwater :-). I forgot I had this weird YouTube name.

  • @MST2k . Hi Kevin! :-) It's Matthew (from Stiffwater!)
