By making that comment, you are by definition assuming that you occupy the place that you are accusing Zizek of occupying.

It's the problem with him, that he seeks to name all these ideologies, while himself trapped in one, where I certainly miss a bit more focus on practical outcome, instead of the subconscious problems some views have and where we should evolve according to his ideology.

I don't think we have a choice but to find meaning in the abstract materialism that he speaks of. We are destined to become a part of a machine that defies humanity. We must find meaning within that machine. We are humans and we can find meaning in any situation, even the situation that is scripted.

The scientific/analytic approach is not visible/traumatic enough. Think back to the oil crisis in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. The scientific data tells us about millions of barrels of oil is spilled. BP cover it up with a toxic cleanse and voila, crisis averted. After the attack on Pearl Harbor (a terrifingly real crisis) it took the US gov. 3 days to redirect all of its resources and commit to a war. same with 9/11.

I think some of you may be misinterpreting what he's saying in regards to loving trash and alienating ourselves more from nature. I believe the point he is making is that if we are to properly tackle problems like global warming, we need to de-naturalize ourselves.

We can't be lulled into a false sense of security by looking outside and seeing trees, and nice whether, or by going to starbucks. We need a more scientific/analytic approach in order to convince ourselves there is a problem.

Just to illustrate my perception of it. Did you know that in International space station they recycle astronauts feces to clean water and they drink it. But feces are feces and clean water is clean water.
