having owned an r6 and an r1, a zx6 and a zx10 i can tell you yamahas are a more refined, sexy but slow machine..kawasakis are raw race machines.the intake sound of a 636 alone gives me chils

even if there was a miss-shift the kawi is much faster... meaner... kawasaki power... i had a R6 and now i have a ZX6R and it is truly faster.

@slipknotfdl what year r6 and zx6? because the new zx6(2009-2011) does have low end and mid range and has more of both then the R6, which is faster? the fastest 600 stock wise was a r6 which clocked at 167mph riden by Sport rider magz test rider , which faster then the other 600s including the zx6, all manufacture how ever will tell you that there 600cc will do 160-165mph..handling wise is opinion but regardless in ama racing the R6 is the bike of choice which is say alot about it!

@barcode0954 your wrong. the zx6r is faster. kawasaki have vertually no power until they hit top end. i have owned an r6... i now own a zx6r... handling is a lot better and is a lot faster... the yamahas are definately NOT as good as a lot of people make them out to be. Put it this way, kawasaki make the best overall sports bike and definately with the best engine

the R6 isn't slower then the ZX6 , the R6 boast the fastest 600 and its true, BUT the R6 doesnt have any low end mid range power its all top end unlike the ZX6 it pulls from the starts to the end. not to mention the R6 is road racing cuirict bike not a track drag bike. yamaha was never know for bikes that are super fast on the straights! you will only see the R6 potential and real power in higher gears or on a race track, that's why the R6 is the preferred 600 for road racing!

Hopefully I'll have my own 600cc in 6 years or so. Since both are more than fast enough for me, would you recommend an R6 or a ZX6R for weekend riding?

They were neck n neck, all of the 600's are pretty evenly matched, some have more power, some have more weight. And evidently... some have a better rider, don't foget that key feature. I can beat an R1 with my R6, but he's a newbie rocket pilot.. so don't be so quick to point fingers at who's faster.

@ektwizzle Hey man, are you sure its not because you're kawasaki is probably a newer model than the r6? I own an 07 R6 and on the top end the kawasaki's aren't as viscious....

the new zx-6r has the highest horsepower of all the 600 i4's and it has those amazing petal rotors to stop, so I would think its the fastest on the road and track.
