During WWII my father served on small Landing Ships - Tanks, the flat bowed, virtually flat bottomed small craft only 150ft long, and in the sort of weather here, they had to sail from the UK into the Med with their cargo of 2/3 tanks. Bouncy and a bit like sailing deliberately into harbour walls the whole way.

Many years ago i experinced a similar storm in the Bay of Biscay....Passengers were advised to stay in their cabins....
I chose not too and from the stern experienced the fury but awesome power of the
North Atlantic...What an experince!!!!
