From the album Jim Mills: Hide Head Blues

- Jim Mills: banjo
- Barry Bales: bass
- Stuart Duncan: violin/fiddle
- Dan Tyminski: guitar
- Adam Steffey: mandolin

Writen by Jim, this song was recorded on the first day in the studio. Jim and the boys were tuning up and just messing around, when Barry heard Jim trying some new ideas. Saying that they should hit it to "see what would shake loose," they recorded a song using Jim's fantastic licks and eventually named the album after it, as well. I hope more folks get inspired to play this one, because I think it could become a good jam standard! It was cut in open C tuning on the banjo (gCGCE), and really has that 30s sound to it. I would appreciate comments from all you Bluegrass fans out there. . .please tell me what y'all think! Enjoy the prewar banjo pictures, too, and feel the vibe of yesteryear come rolling back. . .

  • WOW! This has the BEST Bluegrass tune!!! I love how it feels a little bluesy! :)

  • The first time i heard this tune it was instant awsomeness. I like c tunes anyways and this tune to me is what c is all about. Especially on an old gibson banjo. Jims right hand is incredible on this song and really pulls from the old Scruggs sound of way back when.Ive been looking for some tab and trying to figure out some of the licks but i just cant get them all in there like Mills.
